Why you can't generate RSS feeds with Office Live

A reader e-mailed yesterday asking whether there is a way to generate RSS feeds for his Office Live Small Business web site.

To generate RSS feeds, you need to have, among other things,

1. Access to server-side scripting
2. Ability to extract your site's content from Office Live's database
3. Ability to set the MIME type

Office Live restricts all server-side scripting access, you don't know the data storage structures for your content in Office Live's database, and you can't set the MIME type because you don't have server-side scripting access.

Therefore, you can't generate RSS feeds for your Office Live Small Business web site.
